Johnny thanks his teachers, both inside the classroom and out, who encouraged a love of language, diverse cultures and self-discovery. He is excited to join the community of Gateway as one of our new Learning Specialists. He graduated from UC Santa Barbara with an honors degree in International Relations, studying abroad in Germany and Sweden. He spent the next 20 years creating plays and films throughout America as a writer-director and performer. During this time, he taught high school drama, ESL, behavior therapy, and special education K-12, including 10 years in SFUSD. A lifelong learner, Johnny received his master’s degree from SF State. They earned their M.A. in Women and Gender Studies at San Francisco State University shortly after moving to the East Bay from Georgia. They are excited and invigorated by building and nurturing connections. They enjoy karaoke, weekly trivia, and live music, among many things! More often than not, though, you can find them cuddled up with Baby (their cat) and Omelette (their dog).
