On Thursday, October 16th, nearly 500 guests and supporters of Gateway Public Schools gathered for the 12th Annual Matters of the Mind Luncheon featuring special guest, David Kelley. Mr. Kelley, founder of IDEO and the d.School at Stanford, has spent his career building innovative cultures that expand the role of design in the world. Considered one of the most innovative thinkers of our time, he inspired us with his groundbreaking work on design thinking and his passion for unlocking the creative confidence of people and organizations around the world.
Mr. Kelley was quite moved by his introduction by Gateway Middle School students Sabrin Naji and Alejandro Palos. As he took to the stage, he choked up and he declared that their welcome was "the best introduction" he's ever had.
Student speaker and Gateway Senior Lubna Tanatrah also spoke. Lubna's story of resilience and hope reflected the best that Gateway has to offer. Through her time at Gateway High School, Lubna gained the tools and traction necessary to put her values and beliefs to work and build the future she dreams of.
The Matters of the Mind Luncheon serves as Gateway's biggest fundraiser of the year, and provides a unique opportunity for Gateway supporters, community partners, faculty, students, parents and friends to come together in dynamic celebration of Gateway's mission and work as a model public school organization.
Thank you to all of our superb student, parent, and community volunteers! Your commitment and generosity is an inspiration. We hope you enjoy a sampling of the photographs that were captured on the day of the event.
