Gateway Public Schools is thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Alicia Montgomery as its new Executive Director.
Dr. Montgomery brings a wealth of experience in education leadership and nonprofit management to the role, including work as a classroom teacher before serving as an administrator at the schoolwide, districtwide and statewide levels. She most recently held the role of Chief Executive Officer of the Center for Powerful Public Schools, one of California’s foremost organizations leading education reform and equity.
"We are delighted to welcome Dr. Montgomery to Gateway," said Kevin Rafter, Co-Chair of Gateway’s Board of Trustees. "Her passion for educational equity, innovative thinking, and proven leadership skills make her the ideal candidate to lead our schools into their next phase of growth and impact."
Dr. Montgomery's appointment comes as Gateway Public Schools celebrates its 25th anniversary and as Gateway High was awarded San Francisco’s only Distinguished School Award from the California Department of Education for 2024. Gateway is poised to build upon these accomplishments under her leadership.
"I am honored and excited to join the Gateway community," said Dr. Montgomery. "I am deeply committed to the organization's mission of proving that public education can and must work for students of all backgrounds and learning styles, and I look forward to collaborating with our staff, board, partners, and community to drive meaningful change and create new opportunities for students.”
