Thanks to a generous donation by Gateway Alumni Parent Cindy Wilson, Gateway High School is proud to offer RISE Yoga for Youth to a select group of our 10th-12th grade students for the second semester of the 2013-2014 school year!
RISE offers a comprehensive education in hatha yoga, which includes instruction in physical postures, mindfulness, and breathing practices, as well as a series of life skills workshops on non-violence, self-esteem, anger management, conflict resolution, nutrition, drugs and healthy relationships. Unique to the program is a focus on team-building activities designed to help students explore their relationships with themselves, each other, and their communities.
RISE joins the PE Class as Gateway High School’s first on-campus PE credit options, both of which debuted in the 2013-2014 school year. The PE class, taught by Athletic Director Stephen Flynn, is comprised of regular weight training and active sports in Gateway’s fitness center and gym.
RISE will take place in the gym during F-Block on Wednesday mornings and will continue throughout the rest of the 2013-2014 academic year. We hope to expand this program in years to come and to offer RISE as a long-term PE option for Gateway students. For more information on RISE, please visit their website.
