Five Gateway High School seniors - Guillermo, Lucy, Tahseen, Jordan, and Santiago - were recently awarded with Posse Foundation Scholarships. Only 30 students in the Bay Area received this award, which provides students with a four-year, full tuition scholarship and peer-to-peer Posse support programs throughout college.
The Posse model supports students at partner college campuses and is rooted in the belief that a small, diverse group of talented students—a Posse—carefully selected and trained, can serve as a catalyst for increased individual and community development.
Posse is one of the most comprehensive and renowned college access and youth leadership development programs in the United States. Founded in 1989, the Posse Foundation opened its 10th national chapter, the Bay Area Posse, in 2015. The Bay Area Posse partners with the University of Puget Sound, Lehigh University, and Boston University.
Fourteen Gateway students applied for the scholarship this year, seven were chosen as finalists, and five were selected to receive the award.
