This summer, Kyle will head off to Google headquarters in Mountain View where he will complete an internship learning about coding, engineering, and the tech industry’s culture.
“Gateway is committed to setting you up for success in the future,” says Kyle. “Gateway helped me secure multiple internships, build my resume, and taught me how to be confident in every aspect of my life.”
During his time at Gateway, Kyle completed two internships at Salesforce and has been an SF Achiever since his Freshman year. SF Achievers, a non profit community-based organization that Gateway partners with, provided Kyle with professional mentors and practical skills needed to succeed in a variety of settings. The program also awarded Kyle a $12,000 college scholarship over four years.
During Commencement, Kyle was honored with Gateway’s highest award, the Sharon Olken Mission Award, for exemplifying all the ideals and expectations of the school’s mission: academic achievement; service to community; respect for differences; personal integrity; and shared responsibility for learning.
He will attend Sacramento State in the fall and will major in computer science. He leaves Gateway incredibly grateful for the teachers and programs like Burl Toler Scholars, which taught him to be persistent and resilient.
