Erin Willard (she/her)
Erin is an ELA teacher and reading specialist who began her teaching career in Philadelphia before moving to San Francisco. She earned a BA in English Literature and in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia and her M.S.Ed from the University of Pennsylvania. She is trained in the Orton Gillingham and Wilson Reading Programs, as well as several other literacy approaches.
In her 15 years of teaching, she has focused on developing fluent and critical readers who also become confident writers. As a leader, she prioritizes teaming with her colleagues to develop equitable structures that promote learning and belonging for all students. As an instructional coach, Erin has supported and mentored new teachers and promotes literacy practices that engage and grow skilled learners in all subjects.
Outside of Gateway, Erin loves volunteering with the S.F. Public Library’s reading program, hiking and running with her dogs, and doing just about anything with her family. Her favorite books are Gilead by Marilynn Robinson and Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward.
