Activities

Student Council at Gateway is open to students in all grade levels. Student Council elections are conducted in Advisory with each Advisory electing one council member. That council member serves as a liaison between the Student Council his/her class. The Student Council works on a number of projects involving fundraising and building school spirit, such as the Snack Shack, Friday Dress Days, the Carnival, and Dances.

WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) Leaders are a group of 8th graders who organize and run 6th Grade Orientation, as well as carry out various community-minded projects throughout the year. WEB Leaders are trained in Peer Mediation and work cooperatively to resolve conflicts between other students. WEB is a co-curricular option for 8th graders who are interested in growing their own leadership skills, as well as contributing to the culture of Gateway. 

Twice per month, Gateway students participate in Advisory Clubs, which provide additional extra-curricular options while also bringing students together across grades. Advisory Clubs vary from semester to semester based on staff and student interests. Students rank their preferences and participate in a different club each semester.

Gateway’s GSA meets at lunch on Wednesday and is always open to new members. GSA members work to support success for LGBTQ students on campus through activities such as teaching lessons to Advisory classes, holding fundraisers, and being a supportive community

The Wilderness Club participates in weekend hikes across the bay area throughout the school year and plans both a weekend camping trip and a weekend backpacking trip in the spring. Students meet at school and carpool to trailheads. No experience necessary. Students will receive info on how to sign-up in Advisory. Parents/Guardians are welcome to join on hikes and trips!

Throughout the year, there are many events for students to participate in. They might volunteer to be in the dunk tank at the Carnival. All students are encouraged to bring a family favorite to our whole school Thanksgiving Potluck. Each cohort competes in a spelling competition, sending their winners to face off in our whole school Spelling Bee. Students with a passion for music, dance, and performance take the stage for our Talent Show. And, of course, everyone likes to get down at our school dances!
